Lusail is Qatar's purpose-built third-largest city, a 38 sq km waterfront development 23 km north of Doha with marinas, high-rise towers, malls and the stadium that hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. People come for the modern architecture, the waterfront promenades, shopping and events like the Qatar Grand Prix.

Entry and visas

Many nationalities, including UK, EU, US, Indian and Latin American passport holders, can get a free visa waiver or visa on arrival for stays up to 30 days; other nationalities need to apply in advance. From the airport

Most visitors fly into Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha, about 30-40 minutes by taxi or metro from Lusail. The Doha Metro Red Line runs directly to Lusail station, and taxis or ride-hailing apps are easy to find at the airport.

Getting around

The Doha Metro Red Line and the Lusail Tram link the main districts, while taxis and ride-hailing apps cover the rest of the city.

Local tips

  • Dress modestly in public places; swimwear is fine at hotel pools and beaches.
  • Alcohol is served in licensed hotels and restaurants, but not in public spaces.
  • Carry a card or small change for the metro and tram; taxis usually take cards too.
  • Summers are extremely hot, so plan outdoor sightseeing for early morning or evening.
