Before you go

Entry and visas

Many nationalities, including British citizens, can enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days for tourism, with an entry and exit stamp giving the date you must leave by; a 90-day multiple-entry e-visa is available for longer stays. From 15 April 2026, all foreign nationals arriving via Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City are encouraged to complete a digital arrival card online before arrival, and a health declaration may be required from 1 July. Passports need at least 6 months' validity and 2 blank pages, and rules differ by nationality, so check the official Vietnamese immigration guid

From the airport

Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) sits about 30 km south of town; a fixed-rate taxi to the centre costs around 250,000 dong and takes roughly 40–50 minutes, while the yellow airport bus (route 18) reaches the tourist area in about 50 minutes for 65,000 dong. Some mid-range and upscale hotels run their own airport shuttles, often free.

Getting around

The city bus network is cheap (about 10,000 dong a ride) and route 4 links the main tourist strip with the Po Nagar towers, Hòn Chồng and the cable car, but taxis, ride-hailing apps and rented motorbikes are quicker for reaching beaches and sights outside town.

Local tips

  • Dress modestly at religious sites such as the Po Nagar towers and Nha Trang Cathedral — cover shoulders and knees.
  • Carry small notes of dong for buses, markets and small eateries; drivers and fare collectors rarely have change for large bills.
  • The monsoon runs from October to mid-December, with heavy sea winds and rougher water; the driest, calmest beach weather is roughly February to August.
  • Motorbike rental is the most convenient but least safe way to get around — check brakes and wear a helmet, and never leave your passport as a deposit.

Areas worth knowing

  • North Nha Trang and Hòn Chồng
  • Tourist Quarter (Nguyễn Thiện Thuật)
  • Bãi Dài and Cam Ranh
  • Vinpearl and Hòn Tre Island
  • Trần Phú Beachfront
