Entry and visas

Many nationalities, including British citizens, can enter Vietnam visa-free for up to 45 days for tourism, with an entry and exit stamp giving the date you must leave by; a 90-day multiple-entry e-visa is available for longer stays. From 15 April 2026, all foreign nationals arriving via Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City are encouraged to complete a digital arrival card online before arrival, and a health declaration may be required from 1 July. Passports need at least 6 months' validity and 2 blank pages, and rules differ by nationality, so check the official Vietnamese immigration guid

From the airport

Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is about 3 km southwest of the centre, a 10-minute drive. Metered taxis cost around 70,000 dong, Grab has a marked pickup point, and city buses #6 and #10 run to the centre and My Khe Beach for 8,000 dong.

Getting around

Grab and metered taxis (Mai Linh, Vinasun) are cheap and easy, with air-conditioned city buses at a flat 8,000 dong inside the city limits.

Local tips

  • Dress modestly at pagodas and temples, covering shoulders and knees.
  • Carry small dong notes for markets, motorbike taxis and street food; many places are cash-only.
  • September to December brings typhoons and heavy rain, so plan indoor days and check forecasts.
  • Agree the fare or use the meter before riding a motorbike taxi, and always take the helmet offered.
