Entry and visas

British citizens can visit Vietnam without a visa for up to 45 days for tourism or business; your passport is stamped on arrival with the date you must leave by. If you want to stay longer, you can apply for a 90-day multiple-entry e-visa, which restricts you to the entry and exit points you select. From 15 April 2026, all foreign nationals entering Vietnam via Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) are encouraged to complete a digital arrival card online before arrival; it is not currently mandatory but this may change. From 1 July, travellers to or transiting through Vietnam may be required to complete a health declaration, which may include proof of vaccinations. Check the official guidance from your nearest Vietnamese embassy for the latest rules.

From the airport

Phú Quốc International Airport (PQC) is the main gateway, with flights from Ho Chi Minh City taking about an hour. A taxi to Dương Đông town takes roughly 15–20 minutes, and free electric buses also run from the airport to Dương Đông and along the west coast.

Getting around

Free electric VinBus routes link the airport, Dương Đông, Long Beach and Grand World, while taxis, Grab and Xanh SM cover the rest of the island.

Local tips

  • Carry small cash in dong for markets, ferries and small eateries; cards work at resorts and larger restaurants.
  • Dress modestly at temples and pagodas, and cover shoulders and knees.
  • The dry, sunny high season runs November to March; April and May are hottest, and July to September is the wettest.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen and take your plastic waste with you; litter is a known problem outside resort areas.
