Lombok International Airport has flights from Jakarta, Bali and Kuala Lumpur; Kuta Lombok is 30 minutes away. Fast boats also run from Bali to the Gilis and Lombok.
Getting around
Rent a car with a driver or a scooter; Grab works in parts of the island. Public boats to the Gilis leave from Bangsal harbour.
Local tips
- Lombok is conservative and mostly Muslim: dress modestly away from the beach.
- Climbing Rinjani is a 2 to 4-day trek with a licensed guide; the park closes in the rainy season.
- Carry cash; ATMs are few outside Mataram, Kuta and Senggigi.
- Check the sea conditions before fast boats; they can be rough.
