Entry and visas

Citizens of many countries, including the GCC states and the EU, can stay visa-free for up to a year; others apply for an e-Visa at evisa.gov.ge. All visitors must hold health and accident insurance covering the whole stay, including arrival and departure dates, with cover of at least 30,000 Georgian lari; airlines or immigration officers may ask to see it. Since 1 March 2026, foreign nationals who work in Georgia, including remotely or running a business, need a work permit, then the right visa or residence permit.

Official website

From the airport

Bus 337 runs from the airport to the centre; a taxi through the Bolt or Yandex Go app takes about 25 minutes.

Getting around

The metro and buses use a Metromoney card or a contactless bank card. Ride-hailing apps are cheap and avoid haggling.

Local tips

  • Cover shoulders and knees in churches; women usually cover their hair too.
  • Georgian food is generous: one dish per person is often too much.
  • Old Tbilisi is hilly and cobbled; wear shoes with grip.
  • Most places accept cards, but keep some lari for markets and minibuses.
