Entry and visas
Most visitors need a visa to enter Jordan. A single-entry visa can be purchased on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport or at the Sheikh Hussein/North Border land crossing for 40 Jordanian dinars (about 56 USD), valid for 3 months. Alternatively, if staying at least 3 nights, you can buy a Jordan Pass online before travel (70–80 JD), which includes the visa fee and entry to major sites. If you plan to stay more than 14 days, you must register with the local police station within 14 days of arrival. Always check the official UK government entry requirements page for the latest rules, as
Official websiteFrom the airport
Most visitors arrive through Amman. The resort area is about an hour away by taxi or hotel transfer on a good dual carriageway, and the drive from the capital's airport takes about the same time.
Getting around
Public transport along the shore is very limited, so most visitors use taxis, hotel shuttles, a rental car or an organised tour to move between the resorts, beaches and nearby sites.
Local tips
- Do not shave before going in, keep the water out of your eyes and mouth, and float on your back. Rinse in the beach showers before using your towel, because salt left on the skin can itch.
- Swimwear is normal at resorts and beaches, but cover shoulders and knees at the Baptism Site and in towns.
- Summer highs reach about 40°C, so drink plenty of water and use sunscreen. In winter, check the forecast before entering wadis, because flash floods can occur.
- Prices are in Jordanian dinars and resort food and drink are expensive. Look at the Jordan Pass, which covers many sites in the country.
