Entry and visas

Many visitors, including British citizens, can enter Argentina visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, but rules depend on nationality and some nationalities pay a reciprocity fee on arrival at Ezeiza. Passports must be valid for the planned stay, and immigration no longer stamps passports, so contact the Argentine Migration Office if you need proof of entry or exit. Check the official Argentine migration site or your nearest Argentine consulate before travelling.

From the airport

Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport (IGR) is close to both the town and the falls, with several daily flights from Buenos Aires. A public bus to the town terminal takes about 30 minutes (cash only), while taxis and minibuses drop passengers at their hotels.

Getting around

Local buses run from the town terminal to the national park every 20 minutes and cross to Foz do Iguaçu, while taxis use fixed prices for trips to the parks.

Local tips

  • Bring a light rain jacket and quick-dry clothes: rain falls in every month and spray at the falls soaks everything.
  • Carry Argentine pesos in cash for buses, park tickets and small shops; cards are accepted at most hotels and larger restaurants.
  • Do not feed the coatis in the park, they beg aggressively and can bite; keep food sealed in your bag.
  • Summer (December to March) is hot and stormy, winter days can be cool and wet, so pack layers for both.

Areas worth knowing

  • Town centre (Av. Victoria Aguirre and Av. Córdoba)
  • Indigenous reserve area east of town
  • Road to Iguazú National Park
